MUSTEC project has published a report on how CSP has a key role to play to secure the European power supply in a renewables-based future, contributing to green growth and job-creation in southern Europe and across the continent.
This giant molten-salt concentrated solar power plant capable of providing 100MW power works by using 12,000 mirrors that concentrate the sunlight onto a receiver at the top of a solar tower, which then heats the molten salt. It is designed to generate 390 million kWh of power annually, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 350,000 metric tons per year.
The "Towards Green Transition" Facility has already been launched. This new initiative will enable ECCP clusters to promote green transition skills amongst their members through technical advisory support delivered by highly qualified experts. The call for applications is open until 5 March 2021 at 18:00 CET.
The Kick-off-Meeting of the CSP-ERANET 1st Call project InnoSolPower (INNOvative SOLar micro-TES with high-POWER density) was held online on February 9th 2021, 09:00-11:00 (Brussels time). Therefore, the project activities have been initiated.
Two expressions of interest 7&8 from the Spanish Recovery Plan are of special interest for the CSP community:
- Hybridation projects (e.g. setting up a hybrid thermosolar-pv/floating pv station), new technologies and integration of thermal renewables in industrial processes could fit under expression of interest for Area 7: Development of innovation in renewable energies, including improved gestionabilidad, flexibility, as well as the hybridization of different technologies.
- Deployment of thermal storage in solar thermal plants, either as a new installation or as an extension of an existing plant could fit under expression of interest for Area 8: Innovative business models that help the deployment and integration of renewable energies in the electricity sector and in sectors late energy consumption, including turnkey projects or investment in start-ups and innovative companies.
