Project summary: 

LEIA aims to remove existing technological and industrial barriers regarding central receiver systems and heliostat fields to reduce CAPEX and OPEX with the implementation of new solutions


1)Contribution to the reduction in the cost of CSP power: The innovations presented in the LEIA Project impact over a plant like Cerro Dominador could reduce the LCOE by 7.8% up to 70.9 €/MWh.

2)Environmental and social impact: By increasing the plant efficiency LEIA project would reduce the life cyle environmental impact of CSP facilities while generating a more climate-neutral electricity.

3)Impact to the SET Plan and the CSP implementation plan: The cost-effective solutions of the LEIA will contribute to Activity 6 (Next Generation of Central Receiver power plants) of the implementation plan, which means a step forward toward the EU objectives in the SET Plan.

4)Ability to enhance innovation and integration of new knowledge in the European CSP industry: The disruptive developments with high replication potential and a clear market approach will accelerate the decarbonization of the economy.

5)Future market deployment: The market potential is substancial as stated by the IEA with an Expected anual growth rate of ~30% to 2030 and 17% to 2050.

6)Enhancing the competitiveness and growth of EU companies: The industrial sector is a pillar of the project and its composition will boost a strong positioning in the market. Moreover, transnationality will foster interaction between countries, private and public institutions and creating industrial networks.
